What Does It Mean to Be Black?

It means, once you buy a loaf of bread, the tie thingy automatically disappears and a knot will be tied until the loaf is either stale or gone. It means, every story involving any ounce of disrespect, has to start with the words “How bout?” It means an overdraft charge is a customer service call waiting to happen cuz “It ain’t my fault, Did I do that?” *Mystikal Voice* It means, really disliking R Kelly but also being sad that we can’t listen to Ignition at the Family reunions anymore. It means, lots of Tupperware bottoms but no Tupperware tops.. soooo aluminum foil it is! It means Walking in a room and frantically searching for another brown face so you both can roll your eyes cuz you ALREADY know. It means, “7 to 10 business days my a$$” It means, looking at the price tag, pulling it further away from your face, squinting and then saying “they trippin” It means, being annoyed when the Dj plays the Cupid shuffle but also feeling obligated to do it. It means, saying stuff like “Jesus be a fence” but also climbing over the fence to box if necessary. It means, "I come in the club shakin' my dreads, throwin deez bows and bussin deez heads". It means, Tyler Perry movies will be watched regardless of if they are good or bad. It means, “Close the door, You’re letting the air out” It means, firecrackers or gunshots? Either way, we're already running. It means, Issa Rae ALL DAY! It means, head bop. Head bop. Hand clap.Hand clap. "I said what I said!" It means, an unapologetic love for being black because for so long, society told us not to love ourselves. So yeah. Happy Black month and please be as blackity, black as possible. It’s a leap year. We have 29 days to do this thing BIG and do it right!!! I love us for real!!!!!
