I am going to say something and I stand behind it 10,000 percent. 9-5 is hard. I'm grateful and Lord knows I'm thankful but me along with every other responsible creative person living in LA can agree that...9-5 is DIF-FI-CULT especially when you have other goals, dreams and aspirations!!! The great thing about it is you meet some amazing people that are in the exact same boat as you but there are some annoying things about holding down a 9-5 and I think its time to call them to the light for further examination. Number 1... I will never understand how people drink coffee, knowing their stomach is weak and then go into the work bathroom, pull their pants down to the floor, blow up the entire scene and then sit at their cubicle like nothing happened. Number two, I don't understand how 9-5 changes your sense of humor. Lets be honest, When you first start a job, one of the main things you notice and swear you'll never partake in is office banter and laughing at office jokes. Six months later you find yourself stepping off the elevator while wishing your coworkers a "Happy Monday" and laughing at "thats what she said" jokes. The other day I opened my camera to selfie mode while I sat at my cubicle and whispered slowly "Who. Are. You?" I hate breakfast burritos but every Friday I find myself unwrapping that yellow paper and consuming something that shouldn't have ever been invented. Don't even get me started on the disrespect of people sending you an email with your name spelled incorrectly. You contacted me!!! That's like someone calling you and as soon as you answer they ask you "Who dis?". That's not how effective communication goes. I know the Google auto populate function did not give you Chrissy or Cassie as an option. You just wanted my name to be Chrissy because Chrissy is easy for you, bruh! Number three, my lunch is my lunch. Whatever I decide to warm up in my Tupperware does not need to be explained to you. First of all, I'm African. Sometimes the contents under the lid might scare you and honestly, I don't want to explain to you what Jollof is. Eat your ham and cheese sandwich and lee mee lone!! Number four, don't say something crazy and then say "don't report me to HR" because I wasn't thinking about reporting you to HR until you said something. Now my wheels are turning and the payout may allow me to coast, write songs and blog all day! lol!! I kid.. I halfway kid!!!! Anyways, the whole point of this blog is to remind folks to hug their friends that are trying to finish screenplays, book gigs, write books, songs or start a business all while holding down a 9-5. Truth is, with this recent time change, it's dark when we clock in and it's dark when we clock out. We are tired and still making room for Jesus and our dreams. Hug us!! Hug us!!!!!
