Black Card Revoked

My black card is constantly in "revoke" status. Not because I say "ew"to meat or because NSYNC was one of my favorite boy bands growing up but mainly because I haven't seen SEVERAL movies that are staples in the lives of black culture. I have spent the last decade plus, fake laughing at references to films I have never seen a day in my life. I am here today to confess to you all.. I have never seen The Color Purple...Please don't unfollow me. I'm going to fix it this weekend Lol! On top of that I FINALLY saw a Richard Pryor film for the first time ever three weeks ago. That one is not my fault though. Growing up my dad always told us that Richard Pryor was not for children and we were always sent to our rooms when the adults watched his stand up comedy show on VHS. It really stuck with me and further added to my un want and un need to see anything Richard Pryor was in. I realized after watching See No Evil, Hear No Evil a couple of weeks ago that I had truly deprived myself of some good laughs. There are several movies on the list that I tread very lightly telling black folks I haven't seen... Movies like School Daze, Precious, and The Golden Child, cause a complete uproar when people find out that I've never feasted my eyes on these classic films. The minute that people start to look at me like giiiiiirl you ain't black , I try to counterbalance it by letting them know that I have seen The Last Dragon and The Help. Still, It's not enough. I think that at 32 years of age I think it's time to go ahead and watch the movies that are necessary for my blackness to stay in tact. I'm going to take this entire three day weekend and watch all of the classics. I will probably do this while eating some cauliflower wings but we gotta start somewhere don't we?

Please let me know your suggestions..Which are the must see black films? I need to know. Also, have you all ever done anything that made you feel less cultured? I would love to know! Share please.
